Your AI team agreement
Teams adopt AI tool by tool, person by person, with no shared conversation about what feels right. Those differences quietly create tension and misalignment. Writing an agreement together surfaces that, and gives the team a shared language for it. Try it when the team has been using AI for a while but never talked openly about how, or when you sense unspoken friction around AI use.
How to run it
Run a session together to write your team's AI agreement, then live with it for a few weeks before revisiting.
Before the session, each person spends 10 minutes writing down: what AI use feels fine to them, what feels off, and anything they're unsure about
In the session, share those lists and look for patterns, agreements, and surprises
Together, write a short agreement covering what the team is comfortable with, what they want to avoid, and anything that needs a conversation first
Keep it short and specific, real examples are better than vague principles
After 4 weeks, come back to it: did anything come up that the agreement didn't cover? Does anything need updating?
Recommended time
One session to create, revisit after 4 weeks.
What to notice
Did writing it together surface any surprises about how differently people use AI?
Are the agreed boundaries actually holding up in practice?
Does the team refer back to it, or does it get forgotten?
