Protected focus time

AI makes work faster, so the week fills up faster too.

AI makes work faster, so the week fills up faster too. Meetings and messages take over, and nobody gets the time to do hard work well or think a problem through properly. Try it when the week is busy but little deep work gets done, or decisions feel rushed.

How to run it

Block the same time each week for the whole team, with no meetings and no chat. Use it for work that needs full attention, or to think a problem through slowly before reaching for AI.

  1. 01

Agree on one block a week, 2 to 3 hours, at the same time for everyone.

  2. 02

Put it in everyone's calendar as busy and turn off chat notifications during it.

  3. 03

Before the block, each person decides what it's for: one piece of focused work, or one problem to think through.

  4. 04

If it's a thinking problem, start without AI. Write, sketch or talk it through first, and bring AI in later if it helps.

  5. 05

If a meeting lands on the block, move the meeting, not the block.

  6. 06

At the end of each week, check as a team: did the block survive?

Suggested time

4 weeks.

A guide only. It runs until you close it.

What to notice

  • Is the block still there at the end of the week, or getting eaten into?

  • Is harder work getting done in it than in the rest of the week?

  • Do people think things through before asking AI, and does that change the result?

  • Does the rest of the week feel less scattered?
